Cultivation of Tubercle Bacilli from Pleural Fluid

چکیده
The diand tri-peptidase activity in white blood cells showed little variation from day to day (Table 11). This variation bore no relation to the changes in the number of white blood cells per c.mm. observed in cases of leukaemia. However, the activity of the enzymes differed in the diverse types ofwhite blood cells examined. White blood cells from cases of acute and chronic myeloid leukaemias gave higher peptidase activity than those obtained from normal subjects and cases of Hodgkin's disease and chronic lymphatic leukaemia.

THE DETECTION OF Mycobacterium tuberculosis BY PCR IN SPUTUM SAMPLES FROM LONG-TERMTREATED LEPROSY PATIENTS: ASSOCIATIONS WITH SKIN TEST RESULTS AND IMMUNOTHERAPY WITH Mycobacterium vaccae
As part of a series of investigations at Baba Baghi Leprosarium in lran, 44 long-treated leprosy patients were selected for our study. Samples of early morning sputum were obtained from each patient, examined by microscopy for acid-fast bacilli (AFB), and cultured for tubercle bacilli. These tests were negative, but the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for an insertion sequence believed to b...
متن کاملSerum Albumin as a Food for Human Tubercle Bacilli.
Before the development of egg mediums, serum was used extensively as a medium in the cultivation of tubercle bacilli. Eastwood in 1907 reported that horse, bovine, dog, and pig serums supported good growth of stock cultures of human and bovine tubercle bacilli and also served well as isolation mediums. Since the introduction of egg mediums there has been little use of serum as a medium in itsel...
متن کاملA New and Rapid Method for the Isolation and Cultivation of Tubercle Bacilli Directly from the Sputum and Feces
Sixty-nine positive cultures were obtained from sixty-nine specimens of sputum from practically all stages of tuberculosis. Six of these specimens were negative by direct microscopic examination, but the cultures gave positive findings. These six specimens have been positive for tubercle bacilli at some time. Nineteen positive cultures were isolated from thirty-two specimens of feces. All these...
متن کاملChyliform (cholesterol) pleural effusion.
Chyliform pleural effusions are a little known occurrence only sparingly reported in the literature. At the lung department in Uppsala, Sweden, 11 cases have been seen the last few years. Typically, the exudate develops in a long-standing pleural thickening resulting from therapeutic pneumothorax many years earlier. The exudate contains a high level of cholesterol, probably breakdown products f...
